Umlaas Road, at 870m above sea level is the
highest point on the Comrades route. It
is situated about 20 kays from Pietermaritzburg. A common chirp by runners when they reach
this spot is that “it is all downhill from here”. That’s not really the case as there are still
a couple of hills to go on the up run, and a whole lot more on the down
run. Mind you, there is an easy ± 7km
down hill to little Polly’s on the Up Run from this point.
There is no landmark as such to identify it other than a sign board erected by the CMA.
