Umlaas Road, at 870m above sea level is the highest point on the Comrades route.  It is situated about 20 kays from Pietermaritzburg.  A common chirp by runners when they reach this spot is that “it is all downhill from here”.  That’s not really the case as there are still a couple of hills to go on the up run, and a whole lot more on the down run.  Mind you, there is an easy 7km down hill to little Polly’s on the Up Run from this point.

There is no landmark as such to identify it other than a sign board erected by the CMA.
