For
me, the Comrades Marathon
is at least a 6 month
focus. For others, this may be up to 9 months. Everything I do in this
period is geared towards 29
May.
This includes the decisions and actions I take in my day to day life as
well as in my training programme.
It is important not to lose the plot. 6 months may seem like
a
long time but if you take things one day at a time, things become a lot
more manageable. Time flies when you’re having fun!
If you’re having a particularly bad day, don’t worry, it
will be over soon and you get to start afresh tomorrow! Keeping the focus is
a very
important part of your mental
preparation for the Comrades
Marathon. Initially it may be easier to take it
one day at
a time but you will soon find yourself ‘planning’ and keeping the focus
one week at a
time. Before you know it, you will be ticking off the
months. As each month of your training goes by you will
notice
your mental strength
improving. Great Stuff! I find that this ‘keeping the focus’
impacts on
other aspects of my life, in a good way. I find myself
dealing
with issues so that I do not carry unnecessary mental baggage around
with me which can be a distraction in my training.
