This
is
probably
the
most important aspect to running the Comrades Marathon.
It
doesn’t matter how fit you are, how much mileage
you’ve
done or how fancy your shoes are, if you don’t believe in
yourself, you are destined to
fail! The prediction
calculators
use time and distance data to calculate outcome, they do not use mental
strength and
belief. On the day it is you and your
body out
there.
You have to make things happen. If you do
not believe
in yourself
and entertain a positive outcome in your head it is
going to be a very long day out there. It doesn’t
matter
what other people think and say about your training. They are
not
you! If you believe
in yourself
you can do whatever you set your
mind to. As long as your mind is sending positive signals to
the
rest of your body, your body will react in the same way.
Backing
yourself also helps when things aren’t going according to
plan on
the day. Believe in your own ability and in your own mental
strength.
